So put on your glad rags and join us for a great line up of high octane socialising, there is never a dull moment (unlike the weather). Hope you had a lovely weekend, seems an age since had time to sit down and write out our usual newsy Newsletter, so here goes. What a brilliant evening with ‘Creative Covers’ and T.C’s Disco ~ it has to go down (and mean it quite literally) as one of the best Events ever. Accompanied by Select’s very own backing group, Anne & Barbara proved to be a true Rock Chicks, Mustang Sally’s ‘ride Sally ride’ will never be quite the same. Mandy was a terrific sport, but just how many verses does that wretched ‘my ding a ling’ have; then he met his match with an unwilling Pat whose well honed tactical man handling skills showed she was one lady not to be trifled with! Leigh added a whole new twist to the scenario as he jumped into Mandy’s ‘hot’ seat & turned the tables somewhat, after a moment of ‘shock horror’ our hitherto thrusting lead singer and Leigh put on a wonderfully funny double ‘ding a ling’ act … what a fantastic show, well done to one and all!! At tennis we were buzzed by a helicopter (twice), obviously an avid tennis fan! Maureen’s Counterfeit Beatles didn’t quite make the grade, and their replacements may have been ‘imaginary’ but boy were they dead ringers for the fab four! Mike’s Bedfont Lakes Ranger Walk went very well – next invite is for a ‘Bat’ Walk .. which should prove rather diverting? The Steering Group was the usual mix of laughs, good humoured cross wires and eventually we did actually achieve a decision or two, now just need to find the time to conjure up the words to implement. Rosemary’s BBQ hit all the right notes, lovely food cooked to a turn, lots of punch and wonder of wonders, sunshine. Our Ten-Pin-Bowlers are a rather jolly crowd led by John, Paul and Rupert, they tried to explain the game as we went along: a strike is welcomed by jumping up and down and punching the air, then slapping each other hands just to seal the feat, but a ‘Goal’ isn’t, to see the abject desolation it causes (whereas in football it’s the climax of the sport) is a trifle confusing to say the least! The Driver Boys, were really excellent, and maybe they will have to change their name as Angie, the girl singer really added a special vibrancy to their repertoire and hopefully she will be with them on their return visit. Les’s House Party didn’t quite dodge the rain, as they sat under the sun shades listening to Helen Shapiro, Herman’s Hermits and the Baron Knights, no doubt fortified by Charlotte’s delicious crumble pudding. The Chinese meal was a delight, Pat forgot she had booked in and so it was a last minute dash, but the manager there is an absolute sweetie so a good time had by all. Rosemary’s Quiz held its moments of high drama as the testosterone tempo was called into question,it’s always the quiet ones, must be all that grey matter racing around? And that’s about it for now!
